Senior Rescue Cat Demands To Be Spooned By Dad Every Night

Charlie, a 16-year-old rescue cat, sleeps well on his own, but he prefers a special routine with his favorite person — Dad. Fortunately, his father is more than willing to go along with it since he understands how much it matters to Charlie.

“I went home from a long period away owing to work at the beginning of the year,” Charlie’s father, Conor Coley, told The Dodo. “He insisted on being spooned the first night I returned.”

The senior tabby’s favorite moment of the day since that night has been when he gets to be little spoon. Charlie had always preferred sleeping on his father’s bed since it was his father’s particular spot and he wanted to be a part of it.

“He comes into my room at 10 p.m. every night,” Coley explained. “If I’m already in bed, he’ll force his way under the blankets; if I’m not, he’ll sit precisely where I sleep and meow until I go to bed.”

Coley rescued the “very laid-back” cat eight years ago, saying that Charlie enjoys sunbathing until it’s time to snuggle.

“He purrs as soon as I go into the room,” Coley added. “With the exception of the odd trip for water, he will stay the entire night most nights.” Most of the time, he will return soon and gently pad me awake to allow him to return to the spoon.”

Charlie, at the age of 16, understands how to receive the attention he desires and deserves. “He’ll meow the house down if he needs your attention,” Coley added. But it’s all right. Coley enjoys their routine — and their friendship.

“Charlie has been a pillar in my life as well as my relationship,” added Coley. “He is always there when you need him, and when he comes in purring for a snuggle, it takes away the effort of a long day.”
